City of Woodward to Host National Night Out Event

Updated: Feb 5

The Woodward Tourism Department would like to invite neighbors, community groups, and businesses to join in on celebrating National Night Out, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Crystal Beach Park.

Neighborhoods throughout Woodward are invited to join over 38 million neighbors across 18 thousand communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.

National Night Out is nationally sponsored by NATW (National Association of Town Watch), ADT Security Services, Starbucks, Associa, L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) and co-sponsored locally by the Woodward Tourism Department.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work.

Together, we are making that happen.

“National Night Out is a special night for our local police department, regional fire departments, and other emergency services to celebrate partnerships, friendships, and relationships we share as a community,” said Tourism Director Megan Johnston. “It is an honor to be able to host National Night Out right here in Woodward, where our community already feels like family.”

From time to time, neighbors throughout Woodward and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and public service officers.

Woodward’s local National Night Out event will take place on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Crystal Beach Park, located at 305 Temple Houston Drive. This family-friendly event will include free popsicles, free hot dog feed, free games, a dunk tank, emergency response vehicles, music, and exhibits from Woodward Police Department, Woodward County EMS, and Woodward Fire Department, as well as participation by Mooreland Fire Department, Vici Fire Department, Ft. Supply Fire Department, Sharon Community Firefighters Association, Mutual Fire Department, and Woodward County 911 Communications.

Upper 90 Soccer Garage has partnered with Woodward Police Department to provide a booth boasting all the bragging rights. Test your skill at throwing a softball or kicking a soccer ball as fast as you can into a net and have one of our police officers clock your speed with a Radar Speed Gun.

If you’ve already dusted off your throwing arm, you might as well see if you have what it takes to dunk a Woodward Fire Department Volunteer Firefighters at the Dunk-A-Hunk booth, sponsored by one of our local realtors, Linda Freeman.

Ashley Lookingbill, with Omni Realty Co., has sponsored our Pops with Cops, offering free popsicles to all the children in attendance. And don’t miss out on the free Hot Dog Feed, cooked by our very own Woodward Elks Rodeo Committee. Kona Ice will be serving snow cones, and the Crystal Beach Waterpark will stay open late, until 8:00 PM, if you need to cool off!

The grand activity during this event will be our Regional Fire Department Water Parade. Neighboring fire departments will be bringing their water trucks into town to entertain parade-goers. But this parade won’t be like others we normally see in Woodward. You won’t get any candy or goodies. You will get soaked – guaranteed! If you’re looking for a wild way to cool off this summer, you’ll want to attend this parade. Parade-goers are welcome to bring their own super soakers and water guns to spray back at the trucks. Water troughs will be placed throughout the parade route for everyone to use. We just ask that you do not bring water balloons, umbrellas, or pop-up tents, and please no swimming in the water troughs.

National Project Coordinator, Matt Peskin said, “This is a night for our nation to stand together and promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement. When law enforcement and the community work closely together, some amazing things can happen.”

The Woodward Tourism Department would like to thank community members, businesses, and local organizations who plan to participate in National Night Out. It’s through your continued support and partnership with us that together we can continue to create meaningful connections. We look forward to seeing you on August 6th!
